They expected a Christmas baby, but Jon Jones and wife Sarah‘s little boy came on New Year’s Eve instead — and got his parents home in time to see the ball drop.
Son Hudson Lennon Jones arrived on Monday, Dec. 31 at 1:30 p.m. outside of Fort Worth, Texas, the Eli Young Band‘s bass player confirms to PEOPLE exclusively. He weighed in at 7 lbs., 8 oz. and is 21 inches long.
“We are ecstatic about this beautiful baby boy that came into our world,” the couple tell PEOPLE. “Words cannot describe our excitement and joy.”
With their son arriving a week past his due date, “Sarah and I feel very fortunate that we were able to stick to our birth plan and have Hudson naturally,” Jon, 32, explains.
“The birth was extremely smooth. We left our house at 10 a.m. for the birthing center when contractions were four minutes apart and he was born just a few short hours later. We had a great birth team who helped us through everything.”
Mother and son were both healthy and happy, so the trio headed home later that afternoon — and the new dad enjoyed his night off from work.
“The rest of the band went on stage without me for the second time in our careers,” Jon says of his bandmates, who played a scheduled show in Oklahoma that evening. “They are truly great friends for letting Sarah and I share this wonderful experience together. We were home within four hours of the birth to celebrate New Year’s Eve as a family — mostly holding Hudson in amazement.”
As for what the future holds, “We are all still settling in to our new lives and are learning something new every minute,” notes Jon. ”I could not be more proud of my wife and could not be a happier father.”
